Random Thoughts: Remedies for Rainy Day Blues

I love rainy days, especially cold, rainy days. I love the sound and smell of the rain. And I like to be home, not at the day job, when it's raining.

In the old house, I would stand on the porch and watch the rain. Can't quite do that these days. The place we're renting has no front or back porch. There's a concrete slab of sorts out back, but there's no covering. The front door has a sidewalk leading up to it, and only about a foot overhang from the roof.

I know there are a lot of people who don't like the rain, and complain that there is nothing to do. The would rather be outside.

Here are some remedies for the rainy day blues.

Curl up with a good book and a cup of hot tea, coffee, or hot chocolate.

Check out the current videos from your favorite authors on YouTube.

Write a story or work on your current manuscript.

Outline a story. Rainy days are a great time to plot some of the ideas you have.

Bake cookies or muffins. Shortbread cookies are quick and easy to throw together, and they are great with coffee or hot tea. I roll mine into bite-size balls. As soon as they come out of the oven, I roll them in powdered sugar.

Do some planning in your planner. Update the week or decorate with stickers.

Take a nap. I usually end up with two very heavy cats laying either next to me or on top of me.

Make your favorite comfort food for lunch or dinner.

Snuggle with your significant other.

Watch your favorite movie.
